A memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Global Coalition for Lake Tana Restoration and Amhara Regional State Environment, Forest and Wildlife Protection and Development Authority on October 2017 in Bahirdar. The two parties agreed to collaborate on water hyacinth control and environmental management activities around Lake Tana. Global Coalition for Lake Tana Restoration is assigned to mobilize resources in United States, Canada, Europe and Australia that will be used for water hyacinth control and environmental rehabilitation activities around Lake Tana. To achieve the goal of creating a healthy lake ecosystem, Global Coalition for Lake Tana Restoration will provide the following supports:

  • Logistic Support – which includes materials required for water hyacinth management such as water hyacinth harvesting machines
  • Capacity building – which includes trainings on lake management, water hyacinth control and environmental restoration
  • Support Monitoring and Evaluation activities – a well-designed monitoring and evaluation tool will be used to ensure implementation of planned lake management activities
  • Research and assessment – partnering with local and international institutions, Global Coalition will be involved in problem identification, research and analysis of data that will be used for decision-making.
